Original, yes, but if you attempt to make every scene quirky, this doesn't add up to the sum of its parts. Miranda July's independent film unfortunately comes across a bit forced and desperate for me, in spite of winning several independent film awards.
Mitch : Futuristic robotic tale featuring one of the most likeable characters in years in WALL-E. Littered with 2001: A Space Odyssey references, a nod to classic silent film, and a stinging satire on the obesity timebomb, this is Disney/Pixar's finest work to date.
Unlikable characters generally make for a unlikeable film.. even if you throw in an incestuous three's up to jazz things up a bit.
The fantastic landscapes and scenery make up for a so-so storyline, with some pulsating fight scenes and set pieces to boot. I applaud this different 'flavour' of animated feature, but it won't blow you away.
Not bad, but not great either; especially compared with the glut of other animated features. An unexpected legal drama doesn't quite work somehow, but the Bee World inside the hive is very nicely done.
Yes, this is basically just Guy Richie retreading old ground, but entertaining old ground at that, meaning the likes of Revolver can be Swept Away and forgotten about. Some great casting (I never thought I'd see Stringer Bell playing Super Hans at pool), including another tip top performance from Toby Keppell, make this slick gangster (with panto overtones) piece a welcome return to form for Toff Guy.
Messed up road trip/love story from the twisted mind of David Lynch. Check it out for a flavour of weirdness, a dark homage to The Wizard of Oz, and awesome screen villain Bobby Peru.
Forget the haters, Ang Lee has made a comic book adaptation perhaps too cerebral for the masses, hence the lack of critical or box office acclaim. Not half as bad as expected.
Short & sweet (much like the Eurostar journey to Paris).
Rather enjoyable if you ignore a couple of gaping holes in the plot. Think a pinch of Friday the 13th, a touch of Deliverance and a dash of Apocalypse Now mixed together, simmered for 90 minutes and served with an ASBO.
Strange one this, at times touching and likable but at other times it dragged and left my mind wandering, so overall..
