127 Hours (2010)

Aron Ralston gives an arm, not a leg, to escape the Utah canyons.

(500) Days of Summer (2009)

Sad British pop music, a Han Solo moment and some exceedingly dapper ties from Joseph Gordon-Levitt.. what's not to like? Watch it with a special "friend".

3:10 to Yuma (2007)

Long live the Western; not seen one in ages. Both Bale and Crowe are very good in this battle of wits and wills. Not an outright classic, but will not disappoint. Also another standout performance from Ben Foster, (no, not the Man Utd keeper.)

There were parts of this movie I enjoyed, but for a film that was at least 30 minutes too long the characterisation was really lacking. Relationships changed midway through the movie with no development of how we got there ..unless I fell asleep during the film.. but essentially it is harmless enough. (Not quite a) Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

It has some genuine creepy moments until the things that go bump in the night get a little over the top and the film seems to drift off somewhat..

For all the movie's shocks and scares, this never really gels together. The film suggests that real fears are borne out of one's own experiences; my only fear was that there was little payoff with this one.

25th Hour (2002)

This Spike Lee 'joint' is as much a tale about about New York City, as it is Ed Norton's character - the convicted drug dealer re-examining his life before starting a seven year jail sentence. Not in the 99th percentile of movies, but certainly better than the 62nd.

The 11th Hour

I always thought of Leo DiCaprio as the wet fopp from Titanic, but these days after movies such as The Departed and Blood Diamond I've a newfound respect for him. Especially so after the fascinating, and equally frighting, green documentary The 11th Hour. Being a bit of a hippy myself, these are issues I'm already acutely aware of, hopefully a Hollywood A-Lister will persuade more people to adopt a greener lifestyle.. otherwise it's fingers crossed our grandchildren evolve gills ;)

30 Days of Night (2007)

Thoroughly enjoyable, much more so than expected .. a bloody good Vampire romp ;-)

Decent enough horror flick that delivers on gore and grisly axe wielding mayhem. The film's premise has been well publicised, and several savage action sequences will not disappoint the blood-lust of the most hardened of horror fans. But for all it's glorious brutality, 30 Days ends with more of whimper than a Vampire bite.
